Canadian Podcast Report – Triton Digital

Updated July 28, 2025

Podcast listening in Canada continues to grow. Nearly 4 in 10 adults now listen to podcasts each month, with Anglophone audiences contributing most to a 3 percentage point increase over the past year. Triton Digital’s 2025 Canadian Podcast Report tracks this growth and offers a detailed view of how Canadians are engaging with podcasts. It explores which platforms are most used, which genres are most popular, and how listening habits vary across demographic groups. YouTube has now overtaken Spotify as the most commonly used platform, while Apple Podcasts continues to lead in download volume. The report draws on data collected through Triton’s use of the IAB Tech Lab’s certified Podcast Metrics, aggregating server log data from the Omny Studio platform and other hosting partners.

In addition to listener trends, the report highlights shifts in podcast content. Episode-level analysis shows that themes such as pop culture, law, crime, and relationships appear frequently across a wide range of shows, regardless of their official genre. The report also reviews the top-performing podcasts and debuts of the year, including Dateline NBC, CBC’s Front Burner, and Cogeco Media’s On n’a pas tout dit. For anyone following the podcast industry in Canada, this report offers a grounded look at key developments from the past year and emerging patterns to watch.
